Athlete of The Week: Bri Eid

By Danielle O’Connor, Staff Writer

Senior Bri Eid’s performance on the ice has been remarkable. The Tide recognizes her talent as we highlight her as the ‘Athlete of the Week.’

When reflecting on the past year for herself and the women’s hockey team as a whole, Eid expressed nothing but positivity.

“I think we had an excellent season,” she began. “We finished in first place, set a program record for most wins, and overall, we performed really well. It was just an unfortunate ending.”

While the season concluded on a negative note with an upset loss in the semifinals of the NEWHA playoffs, Eid played a significant role in the Shark’s success, earning the prestigious NEWHA Defensive Player of the Year award—a recognition she doesn’t take lightly.

“It’s an individual award, but it doesn’t get won individually,” she explained.

Eid’s leadership as the Captain of this team has been a driving force behind the team’s achievements, as she continues to set an example both on and off the ice and she doesn’t take the responsibility lightly.

“I just try to be myself and be someone that people can go to and try to be light and uplifting and crack a joke but also know when to be serious,” she said.

As graduation approaches, Eid is already looking beyond her time as a Shark. She’s determined to stay on the ice and not hang up her skates just yet and is exploring other opportunities, one being playing in a professional league.

“I mean, that’s the goal—hopefully that happens. Fingers crossed, maybe overseas in Sweden is also definitely on my radar. Potentially reunite with Tindra [Holm],” she shares, referring to former teammate Tindra Holms, who she shared a close relationship with. The two spent plenty of time together on the ice, and even shared time behind the microphone on their podcast, “The Box Duo.”

Eid has one thing in mind when it comes to things she would like to achieve this season.

“The goal is definitely to hoist the trophy at the end of the season,” Eid states.

Reflecting on her decision to move from her hometown in Canada to Long Island, Eid recalls what drew her to become a Shark all those years ago.

“I liked everything about LIU—the location, the new program, and what they wanted to do. I wanted to be a part of that.”

As Eid continues to shine as a Shark, her legacy as a Shark continues to grow. Eid’s passion for the game combined with her enthusiasm has and will continue to carry her to success. She remains focused on closing her collegiate career strongly as she looks forward to what the future brings!
