I’ll be the first to admit that a lot of holiday music is overplayed, trite, and quite frankly, grating. That being said, I don’t think we should throw the baby out with the bath water and forget that good holiday music exists that unfortunately gets a bad rap from the not-so-good variety blasted by shopping malls and radio stations. And that’s why for this timely edition of Myra’s Music Corner, I’ve compiled a playlist of some of my favorite holiday music. The list includes covers and renditions of well-known classics as well as more contemporary originals.
- Little Drummer Boy – Bright Eyes
- Did I Make You Cry on Christmas? – Sufjan Stevens
- Blue Christmas – Christian Leave
- Winter Wonderland – Cocteau Twins
- Last Christmas – Wham!
- Silent Night – Sharon Van Etten
- Wonderful Christmastime – Paul McCartney
- Wintering – The 1975
- River – Joni Mitchell
- 25th December – Everything But the Girl
- Merry Christmas (I Don’t Want to Fight Tonight) – Ramones
- Santa Baby – Eartha Kitt
- Happy Xmas (War is Over) – John Lennon & Yoko Ono ft. The Harlem Community Choir
