Outer Banks is a drama series on Netflix that focuses around a group of teens in the Outer Banks of the Carolinas. The story centers around two different classes of people that live there; the “Kooks” which are the wealthier individuals and the “pogues” which are the working class. The show’s plot begins with pogue John B discovering that a treasure is linked to his missing father. This leads John B and his fellow pogues; Kiara, Pope, and JJ to embark on an adventure to not only find the gold, but to get to the bottom of John B’s father’s disappearance. Throughout their journey, they are met with challenges from the Kooks, personal struggles, and major plot twists. The target audience for this series is mainly Gen-Z meaning that most of the viewers are high school and college students.
Part one of season four was recently released on Oct. 10. In light of this, fans of the show have their own opinions surrounding the release.
Senior nursing major Isabella Vano is among many of the students at Long Island University that is a fan of the show.
“I waited such a long time for this season to come out and I’m super excited to finally watch it,” Vano stated.
Season three of the series was released in February 2023 so it has been a while since fans have seen the characters on screen. With that said, many fans are eager to begin watching the new season.
Vano shared that she had nott started the new season so she doesn’t have any initial thoughts and opinions regarding the new season but went on to reiterate how excited she is.
Vano isn’t the only student who is eager to take a break from their studies to enjoy the new season.
Freshman musical theater major Kayla Contello is also a huge fan of the Netflix series.
“I loved how developed the characters became last season.” Contello said.
Along with Vano, Contello hasn’t had the chance to watch the new season yet but is excited to see what happens next. Although she hasn’t formed an opinion yet on the newest season, she has strong feelings regarding Netflix releasing the series in parts instead of all at once.
“I disagree with Netflix releasing seasons in multiple parts because it doesn’t build anticipation for the next release, it just makes me not want to finish the season,” Contello said. “I’d rather they release a new episode a week or just release it all at once.”
Will people only watch the first half of the series and then forget about the second part? Will ratings go down due to the separate parts being released which can cause frustration? What will end up happening at the end of this season? We’ll soon find out on Nov. 7 when the second part of the season will be released.
