Post Malone (born Austin Richard Post) was born July 4, 1995, in Syracuse, NY. Post’s musical journey began at a young age when he developed an interest in guitar and songwriting, inspired by artists like Metallica and Bob Dylan. He first gained widespread recognition in 2015 with his debut single, “White Iverson.” The track quickly went viral, earning him a recording contract with Republic Records.
After moving to Los Angeles to pursue a career in music, he built industry connections and started collabing with various producers to create his signature sound. His debut album, “Stoney,” released in 2016, featured hits like “Congratulations” and solidified his status as a rising star.
Over the years, Post Malone has continued to release chart-topping albums and singles, earning multiple awards and accolades. His relatable lyrics and distinctive sound have resonated with fans worldwide, making him one of the most successful artists of his generation. He’s a cultural icon, pushing the boundaries of popular music, and blending genres to create his own unique sound.
2024 introduced a new era for the global superstar, introducing his country side, a side he has also wanted to pursue. His debut into the country world was in May 2024, collaborating with Morgan Wallen on the #1 charting song, “I Had Some Help.” The song was eventually crowned the “Song of the Summer” by Billboard.
Following the release of “I Had Some Help,” Malone released “Pour Me A Drink” with Blake Shelton, and this was when fans knew that Post wasn’t a one-off country star. Quickly accepted by country artists and fans, Post became the hottest country star on the scene. Come August, Post released his debut country album, “F-1 Trillion.” The album is full of features with established artists like Luke Combs, Hardy, Dolly Parton, Chris Stapleton just to name a few. When working with such big and well loved names, you know that Post is being serious.
Sophomore forensic science Major Nikki Buffolino feels that Post has been accepted into the county community by fans and that this a new chapter in his life.
“I think it’s a great change for him, it shows how he’s very flexible as an artist. I love the country sound and how he’s been accepted by fans and artists.” Buffalino added, “It is amazing how Post is able to transition from one genre to another in the span of months and be that successful with it.”
Many country fans have accepted Malone into their genre, but on the other hand, there are some Post fans that may have been turned off by Post’s genre-crossing transition.
Sophomore acting Major Vinny Nigro shared his thoughts on the matter.
, “I don’t think he’s been accepted by fans. I know if you’re a Country music fan he’s been accepted but if you’re a Post Malone fan, I don’t think his fans have accepted that.”
Of course, out of all the new fans Post is gaining, he might have to leave some behind.“I know that a lot of Post Malone fans did not like the fact that he went country because of the fact that they do not like Country music,” Nigro added “However, if you’re a country music fan and listen to country music, it was great.”
The album consists of 27 songs. Half of which feature other country artists and the other are just Post, doing what he does best. The album is very traditional in the sense that it features all the instruments you would hear when you think of good-old-Country-music: guitars, drums, banjo, pedal steel, etc. Dynamically the album is very balanced, ranging from the slow paced “What Don’t Belong To Me,” all the way to the feelgood tailgate rocker, “Pour Me A Drink,” featuring Blake Shelton.
The album is broken up into two consecutive halves. The first half consists of all the songs featuring other artists, and the second half features only the songs with Post and no one else. Some fans had mixed opinions on this.
“The one thing I think he should have done differently was break up all the different features that he had,” Nigro stated. “Besides that, it’s great. I listened to the entire thing, and I think it’s a very solid album that showcases the new direction where he wants to take his music.”
Buffolino shared his thoughts on whether this is the direction Post would continue in or just a phase.
“I personally don’t think it’s just a phase, I really hope not at least,” Buffolino said. I think this is the new Post Malone.”
Post has been in the Country game for less than a year, so only time will tell what is next for the rising country star.
Nigro elaborated on his thoughts on Post’s transition to Country music and whether he thinks it’ll last.
“Living in Texas, Post actually started playing in Honky Tonks, and he’s been surrounded by the culture for such a long time,” he said. “I think going country is something he always wanted to do, he just needed to find the right time. I think the country aspect of Post’s music will always be there to some degree, regardless of where he takes his music in the future.”
Regardless of where this takes his music in the future, his country roots will always shine through in his music. Post has defined genres, mixed all his influences to create his unique sound and became a cultural icon of the 21st century. Post is currently on his US F-1 Trillion tour and the tour will conclude on Oct. 27 in Austin Texas.
