Taylor Swift has been on the road for almost two years, visiting over 50 cities, and playing 149 total shows. “The Eras Tour” has gone down in history as one of the highest-grossing tours of all time, making almost $2 billion. The U.S. leg alone accounted for nearly half of that total, with major cities like New York, Los Angeles, and Chicago hosting multiple sold-out nights.
For nearly a year and a half, Swift has taken fans through each phase of her career with performances that ranged from acoustic sets to full-scale stadium sets. “The Eras Tour” was a journey through Swift’s 17-year career, blending fan favorites from her country-pop roots with her more recent ventures into indie folk and rock.
Swift wrapped up her adventure in Vancouver, Canada on Dec. 8. Fans all over social media were sharing their favorite memories, reminiscing on Taylor’s best moments, and expressing their feelings of sadness over the show ending.
“I can’t believe the tour is over. I have been following it since her first leg in the U.S. and don’t know what I’m going to obsess over now that it’s done,” said senior health and physical education major Ava Taylor.
“Swifties” have kept Taylor and her team going through their endless encouragement and support. The fan base ranges from five year old girls to 65 year olds, all singing and dancing to Swift’s hit songs.
Junior musical theater major Maia Frias shared her experience at the Eras Tour. Frias attended the second night show in Foxborough, MA.
“I wasn’t even supposed to go to the show but got tickets two days before,” explained Frias who was able to attend the show in the pouring rain with her mom.
“I think what makes the Eras Tour and Taylor so successful is her wide-ranging fanbase. You have little girls to adults and even husbands or boyfriends singing along to a majority of her songs which is really cool to see,” said Frias.
Swift wrapped up her final four hour performance with her closing song “Karma” and as the confetti fell, it was clear that this tour had marked the end of a chapter in Swift’s career. With the crowd singing along to every lyric, she stood at the edge of the stage, taking in the overwhelming love from her fans.
Following the end of her show, Swift posted a collection of images from her final performance of “Karma” on social media. The caption was a nod to her song “All Too Well” and read, “It was rare. I was there. I remember it.”
This leaves “Swifties” wondering if there will be more to come from Taylor in the next few months or if she is taking a break from dropping hints and leaving “easter eggs” for fans to find.
It is safe to say that Taylor Swift and her crew have left a lasting impression on the music industry and their fans around the world. It is now time to enter a new era.
