The Yankees are off to a solid start this season, and LIU students are here for it! Aaron Judge is playing great, the hitting has been phenomenal and fans are starting to believe this could be a big year. Of course, it’s still very early—but around campus, there’s some hope for the Yankees.
A major component of the success with hitting is the numerous players in the clubhouse who use “torpedo bats.” Torpedo bats are unlike any regular bat used in baseball; the bat has an irregular shape with the barrel slightly lower. However, these are seen as “controversial” due to their high success rate for the Bronx Bombers in the early part of the season. Although they aren’t the only ball club to have players using the bats, the Yankees were are among the teams surrounding the buzz online regarding the bats due to pitcher complaints from the Milwaukee Brewers after the Yankees swept the opening series against them.
The question that has been argued by fan is: Is this argument valid? It is worth noting that Giancarlo Stanton was seen using one last season during the Yankees’ brutal World Series appearance, yet they still fell short.
Junior sports management student Daniel Frankenberry has been a lifelong ride-or-die Yankees fan who had a lot to say about the boys in pinstripes performance thus far.
“Torpedo bars are ingenious, as they allow hitters like Volpe and Chisom who like the ball on the inside to make better contact and hit the ball harder which results in more hits,” he said.
Frankenberry’s reaction shows how much fans are noticing the positive difference the bats have had so far. These bats aren’t just a cool new thing; they’re helping players hit better. It’s about getting more hits, feeling confident at the plate, and making the most out of every swing, which will ultimately lead to more wins if they stay this consistent with the bats.
Frankenberry is confident his team will stay consistent.
“Overall, I’m satisfied, but it’s too early to say anything,” he said.
A major component of the Bronx Bombers is none other than the captain, Aaron Judge. Judge is among many of the players who do not use a torpedo bat. The bat Judge uses does just fine. Judge became the first player EVER with six home runs and 17 RBIs in the first seven games of a season. When discussing Judge’s performance with freshman criminal justice major Samantha Contreras, sheh had nothing but praise. .

“Despite all the injuries, the Yankees have gotten off to a good start, with the hitting leading the way. Judge is hitting the ball out of the park like last year, and with the new bats, Jazz and Volpe have contributed to the offensive explosion. I’m really excited to see what they’ll bring this season,” she said.
The Yankees currently hold the first-place position in the AL East. Only time will tell if the Yankees stay successful, but the bats are flying and the boys are hungry for wins!
