Fab Four, British Invasion, Beatlemania… as a young adult I have heard these terms and have had to learn about what is behind them. These terms all refer to one of the most famous bands in the history of music: The Beatles. The Fab Four nickname emphasized their collective brilliance and set them apart as a quartet of extraordinary musicians. John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison and Ringo Starr formed this legendary group in Liverpool, England in 1960. Their sound, style and songwriting were unlike anything that had come before.

Rooted in skiffle, beat and 1950s rock ‘n’ roll, the Beatles blended elements of classical music and traditional pop in innovative ways. They explored various music styles, including folk, Indian music, psychedelia and hard rock. Albums such as “Rubber Soul,” “Revolver” and “Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band” showcased their artistic evolution.

Christina Schmidt, a lifelong Beatles fan from Holbrook N.Y., shared her thoughts on the band’s lasting legacy.

“Their music and legacy transcended through time. The Beatles, to me, are more than a band of great musicians,” Schmidt said. “They were activists, artists, writers and enlightened souls that started a movement which still holds relevance in today’s modern world.”

Another Beatles fan, Louis Beghin, expressed a similar sentiment regarding The Beatles’ impact.

“I think The Beatles are the most iconic band in all of music history,” he said. “And that includes artists such as The Rolling Stones, Elvis Presley and even Beethoven. The Beatles are the most widely-known band of all time. I find it so interesting that they have all different kinds of songs. Their style seemed to evolve with time.”

In 1964, the Beatles made their film debut with “A Hard Day’s Night.” Their charisma and music captivated audiences on the big screen. Although there have been several movies about The Beatles in the past, this is the first time there will be a series of four movies for each of the members. There is no official release date as of yet although the tentative date for the films to hit theaters is 2027.

Sam Mendes, the award winning director of two James Bond movies and “American Beauty,” was granted permission from Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr and the families of John Lennon and George Harrison to direct the four movies from the perspective of each Beatles member.

Schmidt shared her thoughts on the announcement of the films.

“I am excited to see how this series of films will turn out,” she said. “I do like that the stories will be told through all of their different perceptions which can give maybe a more accurate lens for fans.”

Another Beatles fan, Paige Schneider of Brooklyn, N.Y., also expressed her excitement for the films.

“I love The Beatles. They’re one of the greatest bands to ever exist,” Schneider said. “I’m excited to see the series delve into each of The Beatles individually. They’re such an incredible unit, but each member has their own amazing story and trajectory pre- and post-Beatles that will be super interesting to see a deep dive into.”

Sam Mendes, who has been quoted as being honored to be telling the story of the greatest rock band of all time, has revealed that the films would be released in an “innovative and groundbreaking” manner.

This is the first time The Beatles have granted their approval for a scripted film to be made about the band. Sony Pictures Entertainment will release all four films theatrically in 2027.
