Baseball returned to campus for the first time since March 10 in an East Coast Conference match-up against Mercy College.
Due to inclement weather and its effects on the LIU Post Baseball Field, the Pioneers have had to compete at Baseball Heaven in Yaphank, NY for their last six scheduled home games.
They won their first game since returning to their home field against Mercy College 4-2, also breaking a three game losing streak.
Mercy started off the game strong in the first inning with two runs but remained scoreless for the rest of the game. The Pioneers were able to respond and tie the game at the bottom of the first inning, and also added runs in the third and eighth innings to end the game with a 4-2 win over the Mavericks.
Senior pitcher Jake Decarli pitched the entire game, allowing nine hits, two runs with eight strikeouts.
The victory over Mercy gave the Pioneers a winning conference record of 3-2 and an overall 11-11 record. They return to action April 7 when they travel to Bridgeport, Conn. to take on the University of Bridgeport. First pitch is at 11 am.
